Previs/Animatics

Some more tweaks and refinements to the animatic with the addition of previs. After an initial previs, we found the timing and pacing were better in the original animatic, and thus combined the two.

Animatic/Previs (Latest version)

Previs v.1

Elements are still subject to tweaking but for now we'll push on with production. Where Jolanta is focusing on characters with the two wolves, I will be taking care of the environments with the shrine as well as the good and evil parts of the environment. Wish us luck!

Animatic #6 with A Composed Soundtrack

Lately we were arranging to get someone to compose a soundtrack which would have both, Woodkid's - Iron and Native American tribe music feel to it. And to our big pleasure, Dave Keefe, aka Mustard Kid also a CG Arts  student who graduated few year ago, offered his help :]

The soundtrack you'll hear in this animatic, he calls a demo, adding that rhythm can be changed, also not all the elements are yet in place.

Having that and some feedback on our latest animatic # 5, another one is piled together to further tackle the problems of rhythm and mood.

After today's discussion with Phil, Animatic # 7 has some slight changes

Animatic #5 + Storyboard

Our most recent animatic with version #5. The narration is now delivered at the very beginning before joining the race between the two wolves, where now two background soundtracks are included for better pacing purposes; an initial track to set the tone and tension before the race, and a second track providing a build up in a pace and intensity before the final culmination at the end of the race.

Updated storyboard with our most recent changes to help keep track of things.

Animatic #4

Here are some previous animatics (version 4) experimenting with the new voiceovers by Philip Banks and Jack Parnell, as well as introducing a new ambient type track.

Animatic #3

Version 3 of our animatic. Yes that's my voice for the narration! - necessary to get a sense of timing for the voiceover so I hope you don't mind.

We had a lot of discussion over our previous storyboards and animatics, taking each shot and identifying its significance. Frames that were repetitive or did not justify itself were cut, where we have included a some new frames for better coherency and theatricality, as well as some experimentation.

The current narration has been abbreviated from the original story to better suit our purposes.

Script
A fight is going on inside me. It is a terrible fight between two wolves.

One is evil – he is anger, hate, arrogance and greed

The other is good – he is peace, hope, benevolence and serenity.

Which wolf will win?
The one you feed…

We're still ironing out details, but hopefully this brings us ever closer to our goal.

Animatic, Leo's Take

My initial take on the animatic for The Wolves Within. Be sure to check out Jolanta's too!

A number of changes/tweaks come to mind while putting together this initial animatic, so except some further developments. The sound is temporary for the moment, but it serves to capture the sort of tone we're trying to achieve. Its not fully confirmed yet, but we'll most likely need a sound guy to help create the soundtrack for us (students welcome) - so drop a comment or email if you're interested.

Animatic for The Wolves Within, J.J.'s Take

to put together an animatic after having discussed the stoyry today,  was quicker than I thought, so here it is.

(A note on the soundtrack, Phil suggested it might be worth trying to find a new, young composer and simply getting them to write it for as the external examiner for the course has requested that any music in CG projects should be royalty-free/copyright free or specially commissioned, otherwise the resulting film's ability to be shown beyond the walls of the University is capped. )

This sequence embodies a metaphor. Two wolves , which represent the good and the bad side in each of us, race from the unconscious part of our psyche to the conscious one, with the aim to take over and  dominate one's entity . On the way each of the two seemingly take over. However, it all comes to an equal fight at the end, as the legend concludes, there is no single winer, as it is us who decide  which side will take over.
